Huerfano County Code
Huerfano County has a adopted a County Code consisting of ordinances as well as general and permanent resolutions. The Code is updated as new ordinances and resolutions are passed. The landing page lists ordinances and resolutions that have been passed, but not yet incorporated into the code. This information is provided as a public service and updates will be made periodically. It is the user’s responsibility to verify the information for timeliness and accuracy.

County Ordinances
Ordinance Adoption Process
Pursuant to CRS Section 30-15-405 and 406, county ordinances are introduced and passed on first reading at a Board of County Commissioners meeting and after notice has been provided in the newspaper, the Board of County Commissioners will adopt an ordinance at a second and final reading.
Effective Dates
If adopted as an emergency ordinance, the ordinance will take effect immediately. Otherwise, all ordinances go into effect 30 days after publication after the second and final reading.

- Ordinance No. 1: An Ordinance for the regulation of traffic; by the County of Huerfano, Colorado: For the adoption by reference of the 1977 revised edition of the “Model Traffic Code for Colorado Municipalities”; Repealing all resolutions in conflict therewith; and providing penalties for the violation thereof. Adopted April 28, 1980.
- Ordinance 82-01: Regulation of Solid Wastes. Adopted July 14, 1982
- Ordinance 84-01: Transporting and Disposal of Refuse. Adopted June 27, 1984
- Ordinance 94-01: Ordinance for permitting of overweight loads. Adopted April 13, 1994
- Ordinance No. 1 2013: An Ordinance of the County Commissioners of the Huerfano County creating an entertainment district for the purposes of C.R.S. 12-47-301(11), authorization of common consumption areas, and establishing application procedures, fees, and hours of operation. Adopted May 31, 2013.
- Ordinance 14-01: An Ordinance adopting a penalty for any person convicted of illegal dumping of solid waste in Huerfano County and adopting a reward for individuals providing information that leads to the successful conviction of a person committing the act of illegal dumping. Not Adopted.
- Ordinance 14-02: An Ordinance allowing the operation of off-highway vehicles in certain county roads and providing penalties for violation of such ordinance. Adopted August 6, 2014
- Ordinance 17-01: An Ordinance adopting a penalty for any person convicted of illegal dumping of solid waste in Huerfano County and adopting a reward for individuals providing information that leads to the successful conviction of a person committing the act of illegal dumping. Tabled.

- Ordinance 22-01: Huerfano County Burn Ordinance. Effective August 20, 2022.
- Ordinance 23-01: Huerfano County Marijuana Licensing Regulations. Effective February 4, 2024
- Ordinance 24-01: Amended and restated Ordinance 20-01 adopting a penalty for any person convicted of illegal dumping of solid waste in Huerfano County and adopting a reward for individuals providing information that leads to the successful conviction of a person committing the act of illegal dumping. Effective June 20, 2024.
- Ordinance 25-01: An Ordinance adopting by reference and enacting a new county code for Huerfano County, Colorado; providing for the repeal of certain ordinances not included therein; providing for the adoption of secondary codes by reference; providing a penalty for the violation thereof; providing for the manner of amending such code; and providing when such code and this ordinance shall become effective. Effective July 5, 2025.
- Ordinance 25-02: An Ordinance amending Chapter 10 of the Huerfano County Code on Fire to update fines, clarify certain definitions, and make other related changes. Effective October 23, 2025.
