The Aspen Acres Fire has caused evacuations of Rye, Beulah, Wetmore, Colorado City, and other areas. There are some residents of Huerfano County who access their properties through Colorado City. This area is currently under Pre-Evacuation until further notice. At this time, expanded Pre-Evacuation notices in Huerfano County are not anticipated, but this is an evolving situation.

Pre-Evacuation means to prepare essential items at this time and ensure your emergency kits are in or near your primary vehicle. Include the 6 Ps: People/Pets, Papers (documents), Prescriptions, Pictures, Personal Computers, and Plastic/Cash. Additional notices with guidance will be sent via HCNotify and Huerfano Emergency Management if an evacuation is ordered. A map of the area will be shared to social media and is on this page.

July 1, 2026 7PM Update

The previously-alerted area – see above map image – remains under Pre-Evacuation until further notice. At this time, expanded Pre-Evacuation notices in Huerfano County are not anticipated, but please be aware that this is an evolving situation.

Guidance on where to go in the case of an evacuation will be shared if and when that decision is made.

Please continue to report any sightings of flame to 911; smoke calls can be directed to Huerfano County Dispatch Non-Emergency at 719-738-1044. Huerfano County Emergency Services will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as soon as possible if the situation changes.

July 1, 2026 4:30PM Update

Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office is putting areas of Huerfano County that would have to utilize Colorado City evacuation routes on Pre-Evacuation due to the Aspen Acres Fire. Please prepare essential items at this time and ensure your emergency kits are in or near your primary vehicle.
