The Aspen Acres Fire has caused evacuations of Rye, Beulah, Wetmore, Colorado City, and other areas. There are some residents of Huerfano County who access their properties through Colorado City. This area is currently under Mandatory Evacuation until further notice.
Pre-Evacuation means to prepare essential items at this time and ensure your emergency kits are in or near your primary vehicle. Include the 6 Ps: People/Pets, Papers (documents), Prescriptions, Pictures, Personal Computers, and Plastic/Cash. Additional notices with guidance will be sent via HCNotify and Huerfano Emergency Management if an evacuation is ordered. A map of the area will be shared to social media and is on this page.

Huerfano County Government and the Northern Rockies IMT will be hosting a community meeting in Gardner tomorrow evening at 7PM. This meeting will also be streamed online.

July 14, 2026 10:30PM Update
Huerfano County has three defined mandatory evacuation zones as of July 14, 2026 due to the ongoing Aspen Acres Fire. Those zones are located in the Bartlett Trail Subdivision Area (referred to as H-1 in Aspen Acres mapping) and on National Forest Service land with private inholdings in Zones H-16 and H-17.
H-1 remains under Mandatory Evacuation due to ongoing fire activity near that zone and the Pueblo County zone north of H-1, which has the primary ingress/egress route for H-1.
H-16 and H-17 reflect National Forest Service land with private inholdings East of Williams Creek at the National Forest border, following Williams Creek North to where it intersects with CR 630, following CR 630 generally north to the intersection with CR 636, following CR 630 West to where it intersects with CR 634 (Gardner Road) and then running due North to the County Line. Southern and Eastern boundaries of these zones are the US Forest Service boundary and the Northern boundary is the County Line.
For additional clarification; County residents who live west of Santana Butte and Badito Cone and off of Forest Service land are NOT under Mandatory Evacuation and remain under a Fire/Smoke Advisory. This Mandatory Evacuation is intended for National Forest Service boundaries and those residents who live on private land within those boundaries.
Additional updates will be shared on Wednesday, July 15. A Community Meeting with Incident Management Team (IMT) support in Gardner will be scheduled in the near future after the transition from the Alaska IMT to the Northern Rockies IMT.
July 14, 2026 11AM Update
The Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office is evacuating all areas within the US Forest Service to the East of where Williams Creek crosses into the National Forest and then following Williams Creek North to where Williams Creek intersects with CR 630 and following CR 630 generally north to where CR 630 intersects with CR 636 and continuing to follow CR 630 west to where it intersects with CR 634 (Gardner Road) and then running due North to the County Line. Southern and Eastern boundaries of the evacuation zone are the US Forest Service boundary and the Northern boundary is the County Line.
July 13, 2026 4PM Update
Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office is placing all Forest Service land North of CO-69 to the northern-most Huerfano County line under Pre-Evacuation Notice. This includes CR 630 North of CR 630.1 and CR 634 North of 634.2, as well as the entirety of the Greenhorn Wilderness Area.
Please prepare essential items and ensure your emergency kits are in or near your primary vehicle. Include the 6 P’s: People/Pets, Papers, Prescriptions, Pictures, Personal Computers, and Plastic or Cash. Additional notices will be sent via HCNotify, posted on the County website and shared to the County Facebook.
The previous mandatory evacuation zone – the Bartlett Trail Subdivision, shown to the east on the attached map – remains under mandatory evacuation until further notice.
July 10, 2026 3:30PM Update
The Bartlett Trail Subdivision area remains under mandatory evacuation per direction from the Alaska Incident Management Team working the Aspen Acres Fire. This is due to ongoing fire activity in the vicinity and weather conditions with high fire danger.
Huerfano residents impacted by this evacuation order can obtain reentry cards at the Pueblo Disaster Assistance Center, which is currently open from 9AM to 6PM through July 14. Residents are encouraged to get their reentry cards before the evacuation order is lifted. We will continue to post updates on the Disaster Assistance Center schedule beyond July 14 once we have that information. The Disaster Assistance Center also contains resources for food, basic needs, mental and behavioral health, and more for those displaced by the Aspen Acres Fire.
The Alaska Incident Management Team continues to actively work on the Aspen Acres Fire and has open communication channels with Huerfano County Government and the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office. Huerfano County will continue to share the daily updates from the Alaska team on the County Facebook Page and will post additional updates as they impact Huerfano County.
July 5, 2026 3:30PM Update
Huerfano County has extended the Fire and Smoke Advisory from this morning as far east as I-25. The advisory area now includes areas north of Highway 69 from the Custer County Line following CO-69 to the intersection with Red Rock Road, east to I-25, and follows I-25 north to the Pueblo County Line.
A fire advisory is one level below a Pre-Evacuation and is to give residents advance notice of the potential for their area to be placed on pre-evacuation or mandatory evacuation. The Bartlett Trail Subdivision area remains under mandatory evacuation. Evacuees from this area seeking additional information should contact the Pueblo Disaster Assistance Center. July 5, 2026 10:30AM Update
New Fire and Smoke Advisory for Aspen Acres Fire
Out of an abundance of caution, a Fire and Smoke Advisory is now in effect for the Upper Huerfano and Gardner area. The advisory, which has been coordinated with Custer County, includes areas north of Highway 69 from the Custer County Line following CO-69 to Badito (CO-69 and CR 616), and then north along the eastern edge of the Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness to the Pueblo County Line. This extends the Fire and Smoke Advisory Area announced yesterday (7/4) by Custer County for Southern Custer County east of Colorado Highway 69 and south of Rosita Road to the Huerfano County Line.
A fire advisory is one level below a Pre-Evacuation and is to give residents advance notice of the potential for their area to be placed on pre-evacuation or mandatory evacuation.

The Pre-Evacuation Notice for Big Sheep Fire south of Highway 69 in Huerfano County has been lifted.
July 4, 2026 1PM Update
Below are updates from the Alaska IMT Public Information Team. One area of Huerfano County remains under mandatory evacuation. Alaska IMT and the County continue to monitor the fire and the creation of additional pre-evacuation zones within Huerfano County is a possibility. No decisions have been made as of this posting. An update will be posted later this evening or earlier if the need arises.

July 3, 2026 7PM Update
Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office is en route now to the Aspen Acres pre-evacuation zone. At this time it is a mandatory evacuation north towards Pueblo’s Disaster Assistance Center. July 3, 2026 1PM Update
Aspen Acres Fire is a rapidly evolving situation – please review the updated Overview section. At this time the pre-evacuation notice for Huerfano County near Rye remains in effect and the area is unchanged from previous updates. The Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management continue to monitor the situation and any updates will be released as quickly as possible in conjunction with Alaska IMT and Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.
July 2, 2026 12PM Update
The pre-evacuation notice remains in effect for areas of Huerfano County that would have to evacuate through Colorado City due to the Aspen Acres Fire. If you are between the eastern boundary of national forest land and the intersection between CR 670 and CR 660 by Apache City (West of I-25), you are within the affected region. Additional updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
July 1, 2026 7PM Update

The previously-alerted area – see above map image – remains under Pre-Evacuation until further notice. At this time, expanded Pre-Evacuation notices in Huerfano County are not anticipated, but please be aware that this is an evolving situation.
Guidance on where to go in the case of an evacuation will be shared if and when that decision is made.
Please continue to report any sightings of flame to 911; smoke calls can be directed to Huerfano County Dispatch Non-Emergency at 719-738-1044. Huerfano County Emergency Services will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as soon as possible if the situation changes.
