HCNotify: Stay Informed and Stay Safe

Huerfano County has launched HCNotify, a free community alert system designed to keep residents and visitors informed during emergencies and other critical situations.

HCNotify replaces the previous CodeRED system and provides faster, more flexible, and more reliable communication when it matters most — including the ability to answer poll questions that give County officials critical information during active emergencies.

HCNotify is powered by Motorola Rave and Smart911, platforms trusted by thousands of government agencies, schools, and organizations nationwide, sending millions of messages daily and during critical situations such as severe weather.

IMPORTANT: Current and Previous CodeRED Users

If you are currently signed up for CodeRED, or have been signed up in the past, you are not automatically enrolled in HCNotify. To continue receiving emergency alerts, you must sign up for the new system. Click the “Sign Up for HCNotify” button to continue.

Already Have a Smart911 Account?

If you have an existing Smart911 account — for example, if you previously signed up for alerts in Las Animas County (Trinidad) — do not use the standard registration link above. Instead, use the following link to log in and opt in to Huerfano County alerts with your existing account:

→ Existing Smart911 Users: Sign In Here: https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/login.action?pa=huerfano

The standard registration link is only for those creating a brand-new Smart911 account. Using the correct link for your situation will ensure you are properly enrolled.

Why Did We Switch from CodeRED?

HCNotify offers significant improvements over CodeRED, including:

  • Alerts delivered via phone, text, and email
  • Two-way communication — residents can respond to poll questions, giving County officials real-time critical information during emergencies
  • Reliable, tailored updates based on your specific needs and geographic location
  • A platform built for long-term sustainability as emergency alerting technology continues to evolve

What is HCNotify?

HCNotify is a free public safety alert service that sends important notifications from Huerfano County and other state and local authorities. Alerts may include information about:

  • Severe weather
  • Wildfires and evacuations
  • Road closures and traffic safety
  • Flooding or infrastructure issues
  • Other public safety emergencies

You choose how you receive alerts—by text message, phone call, or email—based on what works best for you.
